The city of Indore, with an area of more than 2500 square kilometres and a population of more than 2 million, is the most populous city in Madhya Pradesh. It serves as the financial capital for the state, complete with the presence of the Madhya Pradesh stock exchange. In January 2016, it was selected to be a part of the first 20 cities under the Smart City Mission and well on this path, it has emerged as the cleanest city in India two years in a row as per “Swachh Survekshan”. Additionally, it is the only city in India that has two of the most prestigious educational institutes in the country: IIT and IIM.
